Celebrating Generations of Canons at the annual Benefit Dinner 2025

ree

On September 28, 2025, The Hilton Chicago came alive with faith, fellowship, and generosity as the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius hosted their Annual Benefit Dinner. Under the theme "Celebrating Generations of Faith: Honoring the Canons Regular," friends, family, and supporters gathered to support our mission of forming holy priests who Restore the Sacred. The evening was a beautiful blend of spiritual reflection, inspiring stories, and community, raising vital funds for seminary formation, where each seminarian's annual education costs $50,000 out-of-pocket.

The festivities kicked off with a lively cocktail reception and silent auction in the main foyer. Guests mingled over hors d'oeuvres and music, browsing 86 unique items from artwork and wine baskets to exclusive experiences like golf outings.

As gentle chimes signaled the transition to dinner, Brother Marko Culjak, SJC, our emcee, delivered a warm welcome, introducing Very Rev. Joshua Caswell, SJC, Superior General of the Canons Regular. Fr. Joshua outlined the evening's agenda, emphasizing our shared mission to form priests who preserve the Church's liturgical heritage. A highlight was the Gregorian Chance Raffle, followed by His Excelleny, Bishop Joseph N. Perry's moving invocation, celebrating his 50 years of priesthood, before a delicious dinner service.

During dessert, the spotlight turned to our "Canons Across Generations" panel, featuring newest members like Brother Mateusz, Brother Marko, Brother Kevin Doerge, and Brother Nathaniel engaging with founding members such as Father Brendan, Father Jim, Father Dennis. Through thoughtful questions like "What is one piece of advice you can give to us seminarians?" and stories from the founding days the panel bridged tradition and the future, inspiring all with tales of vocation, community, and devotion to St. John Cantius.

Father Joshua's keynote followed, sharing his personal background, the importance of authentic community in our order, and a visionary look ahead: Where will the Canons be in 100 years? He reminded us of our unique calling to Restore the Sacred through the solemn celebration of the Mass and Divine Office, fostering holiness in a world that needs it more than ever.

The energy peaked with the live auction, led by professional auctioneer Matt Hart and Rev. Brendan Gibson, SJC. Father Joshua then extended a heartfelt invitation for support, highlighting our financial needs. Guests responded generously, filling pledge envelopes to sustain our growth and mission.

Brother Marko wrapped up with thanks to all involved, reminding everyone of the silent auction close and encouraging post-event mingling in the lounge until 8:00 PM. Rev. Kevin Menard, SJC, our newest ordained priest, offered a closing prayer, sending us forth with blessings.
