A New Deacon in the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius

Achbishop Blase Cupich ordained Deacon Nathan Ford, SJC as a Transitional Deacon on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at Mundelein Seminary. While restrictions due to the pandemic limited in person attendance, thousands were able to witness the ceremony digitally through the Archdiocese livestream.

Deacon Nathan reflected on the peculiarity of conditions of his ordination "A deacon is the face of Christ, so in this time of plague, masks, and distancing, it is my prayer to not let any mask (physical or spiritual) cloud my vision of the sick and suffering, the hopeless and those who need that merciful touch, or a gaze from Christ's eyes. I'm grateful and excited for this great privilege to serve as a deacon of charity for God and for His Church."

In the days following ordination he went right to work as Deacon at St. John Cantius Parish assisting at Masses and vespers, blessing candles and cars, and preaching for the first time at Masses on Sunday, August 16.

The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius are grateful for the parishioners, friends and benefactors who have supported Deacon Nathan, and all of the Canons in seminary formation through their prayers and financial support. As Deacon Nathan said "Thank you for all of your prayers and support. I wouldn't be here today without your support and prophetic witness to Christ."
