Canons Regular of St. John Cantius

News

On Monday, February 7, 2011 Bishop Joseph Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, celebrated a Pontifical Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form at Holy Apostles College and Seminary. Organized by the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius, it was the first Mass of that type in the history of the seminary. And according to local sources, it was probably the first Pontifical Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form in the Diocese of Norwich since Vatican II.

For this historic occasion in the new Queen of Apostles Chapel Bishop Perry offered the Votive Mass of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles. Assisting the Canons Regular in the various liturgical roles and in the schola were other seminarians from the Fathers of Mercy, the Knights of the Holy Eucharist, as well as diocesan seminarians and lay students. David Hughes, organist from St. Mary’s Church in Norwalk, Connecticut provided accompaniment for the Mass. The vestments used for the Mass were generously loaned by the St. Gregory Society of New Haven, Connecticut.

The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius presently has six seminarians studying at Holy Apostles College and Seminary and one priest stationed there with them.
